They have a ‘positive product manifesto’, around the central idea that their products are designed to benefit the earth, their customers and the people they work with.
It’s hard not to love the clothes they make – they’re highly unique, carefully designed, and made ethically using artisan practices and no waste.
Based in Brighton, however, with no physical store, you can purchase from STORY mfg. on their website or through a range of high-end stockists around the world.
22. Beaumont Organic

Beaumont Organic make stylish, artisan-made, ethical womenswear. Based in Manchester’s Northern Store, you can visit their brick and mortar store to shop in person.

Their priced in line with many regular higher end, but not completely luxury brands, and I definitely recommend checking them out.

If it’s knitwear you’re looking for, I can’t recommend Peregrine enough. This sustainable UK brand creates its jumpers, shirts, and cardigans ethically in the UK from natural fibers, including British wool.
The brand knows how to create damn good knitwear, and they’ve been perfecting their craft since 1796.

What is an ethical brand?
The fashion industry is one of the most exploitative industries in the world. Stats show that of 71 leading clothing retailers in the UK, 77% believed there was a likelihood of modern slavery occurring at some stage in their supply chains. Therefore, we must support ethical brands to prevent worker exploitation in the fashion industry.
An ethical clothing brand is committed to environmental and social responsibility. Brands that are genuinely sustainable and ethical prioritise environmental production practices and support ethical labor practices. An ethical brand ensures no worker exploitation in the production process and ensures workers in the supply chain have access to safe and healthy working conditions and fair pay without any forced labour.
To tell that a brand is ethical, make sure they have transparent information about where its clothes are produced and that it has a robust code of conduct. Also, check if a brand partners with certified and audited factories like Fair Trade, WRAP, GOTS, and other social certifications.
Why is Sustainable Clothing Important?
Along with supporting ethical brands, buying sustainable clothing is important. The fashion industry is one of the largest polluters in the world, creating more carbon emissions every year than maritime shipping and air travel combined. As we’re in a climate crisis, we must be responsible for the clothing we buy.

I love using online thrift stores like vinted or depop to find high-quality, pre-loved items. You can also head to your local charity shop for some vintage finds.
There are also some great affordable, sustainable clothing brands from the UK, such as Omnes, Thought, and Aligne, creating high-quality and reasonably priced sustainable clothing.
Another way sustainable fashion is affordable is to consider the cost per wear of an item. For example, buying from fast fashion brands often means low-quality, cheaply made clothing that falls apart after the first couple of wears. So even though you bought the item cheaply, you’ll have to replace it sooner. On the other hand, if you shop from a high-quality brand, an item should last you year after year, meaning the cost per wear will be a lot cheaper in the long run.
